一.连词的定义。
用于连接单词、短语、从句或句子的词叫连词（Conjunction）。连词是虚词，在句中不能独立充当句子成分，只起连接作用。
二.常用连词用法举例。
1.and 和，并且
I bought a pencil andtwo knives yesterday.
昨天我买了一支铅笔和两把小刀。
She lives andstudies there.
她在那里居住和学习。
2.or 或，还是，否则
You may listen to the recording ordo your homework.
你可以听录音或是做家庭作业。
Will you spend your summer vacation at school orat home?
你暑假打算在学校过还是在家过？
Wear your coat oryou will be cold.
穿上你的外衣，否则你会着凉的。
3.but 但是，然而
He is young, buthe is very clever.
他虽小，但非常聪明。
4.not only...but also...不仅...而且
She is not onlya singer but also a dancer.
她不仅是个歌唱家，而且是个舞蹈家。
I not onlyheard it, but also saw it.
我不但听见了，而且还看见了。
5.both...and...两者都
BothJane and Mary came to see me yesterday.
珍妮和玛丽昨天都来看我了。
6.so 于是，因此
He is waiting for me, soI must be quick.
他在等我，所以我得赶快走。
7.after 在...之后
I found your coat afteryou had left the house.
你离开屋子后，我找到了你的上衣。
8.either...or...或者...或者/不是...就是
Eithercome in or go out.
要么进来，要么出去。
You may eitherstay at home or go with us.
你呆在家里也行，跟我们去也可以。
9.as soon as 一...就...
I will ring you up as soon asI see him.
我一看到他就给你打电话。
10.if 如果，假如，是否，只要
You can learn English well ifyou work hard.
只要努力，你能学好英语的。
Ifit rains tomorrow, we will stay at home.
如果明天下雨，我们就呆在家里。
11.as...as... 和...一样
He planted trees asfast as anyone else.
他种树和其他人一样快。
12.till(until) 到...时，直到...才
Please wait tillI come.
请等到我来。
He didn"t come back home untilmidnight.
他直到半夜才回家。
13.since 由于，既然，自从...以来
What have you been doing sinceI last saw you?
自从上次我见到你以来，你一直在干些什么？
Sinceyou don"t want to see the film, we won"t force you to.
既然你不愿意看这部电影，我们也不勉强你。
14.because 因为
I was absent yesterday becauseI was ill.
昨天我因病缺席。
I will not go to school becausetomorrow is Sunday.
因为明天是周日，所以我不用上学。
15.as 因为，当...时候
①用以引导原因状语从句
Asyou"re ready, you may go first.
因为你准备好了，你可以先走。
②用以引导时间状语从句
Asshe looked herself in the mirror, she found a man standing behind her.
当她照镜子时，发现一个男人站在身后。
③用以引导方式状语从句
He finished his homework just ashis teacher told him.
他正是按照老师告诉他的那样完成了作业。
④用以引导比较状语从句
They worked asfast as experienced workers.
他们工作得像有经验的工人们一样快。
⑤用以引导让步状语从句
Try ashe would, he couldn"t lift that huge box.
虽然他试了，可他还是举不起那个巨大的盒子。
Smart asshe was, she couldn"t beat another girl in the competition.
