文章背景是目前美国很多大学逐渐淡化了SAT成绩在录取中的重要性，加州大学甚至考虑要取消入学申请中的SAT要求，这一做法也引发了争议。节选的句子含义是：像任何一个学术热点中心一样，加州大学早已习惯了各种争议。最近，一场关于如何应用SAT和ACT考试（这些考试用于大学录取）的争论从校园一直吵到了法庭。

从这里可以学习一个句式：not so much…as… 它的意思是“与其说……不如说……”（used to say that one description of someone or something is less suitable or correct than another）
这一句式在外媒报道中很常见，例如《卫报》中就有这样的句子：
